Invisalign®: No wire no bracket smile: the orthodontic revolution is on its way!

If wearing braces looks impossible to you, and if your orthodontic problem is moderate, there is an alternative to the multi-banded treatment, namely the Invisalign® treatment.

Invisalign® is a set of clear aligners, custom-made because they are made from your dental impressions, according to your treatment plan. These nearly invisible aligners progressively straighten your teeth to the desired position, and give your smile its full brightness.

You will have to:

  • Wear your aligners 22/24h i.e. 300h/2 weeks
  • Remove your aligners when eating, drinking, brushing your teeth or flossing
  • Move to the next aligner every 2 or 3 weeks
  • Come to our office on a regular basis in order to check the treatment progress

Results will be visible within 6 to 12 months of treatment.

In addition to the excellent unobtrusiveness of the orthodontic treatment by aligners, there is no disturbance in your social and/or professional life, no food restriction as the aligners can be removed for meals.

Aligners are Bisphenol and Phthalate free.

The Invisalign® treatment

Treatment duration depends upon your particular case. According to the necessary tooth movements, the number of your aligners will vary. You will wear your aligners night and day, except when eating or brushing your teeth. When wearing your aligners, we advise that you drink water only and don't chew gum.

You will come to our office at 10 weeks intervals and the appointments will be shorter than for a traditional treatment.

Warning

Invisalign® has numerous benefits but, as in any orthodontic treatment, aligners can cause some slight speech impairment in the beginning. Likewise, some amount of tooth sensitivity when switching to a new aligner may occur; this is normal and signs their efficiency: your teeth are moving. Both these downsides will recede within a few days.

But Invisalign® can not treat every case. It is perfectly fit for improving your smile, but does not preclude more traditional orthodontics if your problems are more severe.

FAQ

How is Invisalign® working?

Invisalign® is using CAD software that, from digital models of your dental arches, will modelize all steps of your treatment, from the initial positions of your teeth to their final positions. These models will then be used for making a set of custom-made clear aligners. Each aligner will generate a small tooth movement and will be worn for 2 weeks. It will be replaced by the next aligner, until your teeth reach their intended positions.

What are the main benefits of the Invisalign® technology?

Unobtrusiveness
Invisalign® aligners are clear; you will see your treatment progress, none the wiser.

Hygiene
Invisalign® aligners are removable; you can eat and drink anything during your treatment. As you will remove your aligners for brushing your teeth, you will keep a nice oral hygiene.

Comfort
Invisalign® aligners don't feature any wire or metal attachment that would cause irritations. In addition, you will spend less time in the orthodontic office, as there is no need for adjustments.

What are aligners made from?

Aligners are made from polycarbonate, a very strong clear plastic, much used in medicine. They are nearly invisible when in your mouth.

What are aligners like?

They are clears and look like the thermoformed splints used for whitening, the difference is that they perfectly fit your teeth in order to move them.

Is this a new method for straightening teeth?

Orthodontists are using removable appliances for limited tooth movements for years. Nowadays, thanks to CAD (computer assisted design) technology and to mass production of custom-made appliances, Invisalign® can treat a wide array of clinical cases with improved accuracy.

When was the Company created?

Align Technology, Inc., the Company behind Invisalign®, was created 1997. Since then, over 10 millions aligners have been produced and more than 250 000 patients were treated.

When was this technology born?

In 1945, Dr. H.D. Kesling predicted that, thanks to modern technology, it will someday be possible to use a set of "positioners" (tooth positioners) to make the tooth movements needed in an adapted full orthodontic treatment. New technologies made him right.

Through CAD software, Align designs and manufactures a set of clear thermoformed custom-made appliances: the aligners.

Each aligner is worn by the patient for a given period of time and will generate major tooth movements at both arches.

Did practitioners follow a special training for using Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is not linked to any particular treatment philosophy, but it requires a special theoretical and practical training. Any orthodontist willing to use Invisalign in his/her office must attend training before treating their first Invisalign patients.

How does Invisalign® moves teeth in an efficient way?

Just like brackets and archwires in orthodontic braces, Invisalign® aligners generate tooth movements through a light and continuous pressure on teeth. The main difference is that Invisalign® not only controls the amount of force, but also their duration (synchronization). For each treatment step, only certain teeth move, according to the prescriptions of the treatment plan for this particular step. In fine, it will be an efficient system for exerting and distributing biomechanical forces.

Does it work?

Yes. For a lot of people, a simple appointment in the office will allow to answer this question. During this appointment, the Doctor will determine the opportunity of a treatment by aligners.

How does it work?

If you can benefit from an Invisalign® treatment, this will be the chronology:

  • Making an orthodontic assessment, just like for any orthodontic treatment
  • Taking optical impressions with the Itero scanner (3D modeling of the dental arches), no more alginate needed!
  • 3D digitization and preview of the treatment in 3D video: ClinCheck. The practitioner checks every tooth movement up to the final result.
  • Installation of the aligners

The delay is about 4 to 5 weeks between the impression taking and the installation of the first aligners.

Does it works in teenagers?

Yes, the Company developed Invisalign® teen.

How much does it cost?

It is all depending on your case: a first appointment is necessary from which you will be given an estimate for the cost. Each case is unique.
